This project focused on integrating a diegetic UI system directly into the 3D environment, moving away from traditional overlay designs. The goal was to create an interface that felt like a natural part of the game world, enhancing immersion for the player. Through utilisation of Unreal Engine’s Blueprint system and world-projected widgets, the result is a seamless approach to UI design that pushes the boundaries of interactive game experiences.

These were my first experiences with Unreal Engine, and I aimed to understand how to implement UI in a game while also familiarizing myself with the Blueprint system. Creating diegetic interface elements proved challenging because many standard methods for achieving smooth flow didn’t work as expected with world-projected widgets. While the final result was a significant achievement, each step in the process was difficult. However, every time I got a Blueprint right, it felt incredibly rewarding!
